Kyle Gass, one half of the rock duo, Tenacious D has been feeling the effects of making an off the cuff joke about the Trump assassination attempt this week. First reported by Maria Sherman from AP, and now according to Metal Injection, he has been dropped by his agent.
Gass turned 64 while on tour in Australia this week, and when asked what he wished for after blowing out the candles on his cake he said...
The joke made it to the internet, the internet got mad, forcing his band mate Jack Black to make a statement on social media, and cancel the remainder of the band's tour. Kyle followed with an apology of his own...
There is no question that the joke was in poor taste, but I'm curious about why we're holding two comedians playing rock music to a higher standard than the Republican nominee for President?
Trump spent months after the 2020 election peddling election lies, ending with a call to his supporters to attend the "Save America Rally" on January 6th because it's "gonna be wild". The attempted insurrection resulted in 7 deaths, one of which was a Trump supporter, named Ashli Babbitt.
This is what makes my head hurt. We're living in a time where there are greater social consequences involved with making a mean joke about a politician than there are when teachers and children are murdered at school.
Do you think we're holding Tenacious D to a higher standard than our elected officials?
